Some of the items on my non-denominational winter holiday shrub:

I have most of the Hallmark Star Trek ornament collection. Yes I did convince a woman to marry me and have a child, and she’s never even been to a Star Trek convention.

My favourite cartoon ever since I was kid, this is not the only Scooby Doo ornament I own.

Nothing says happy holidays like hallucinations and psychedelia.

This year’s new addition to our collection of ornaments is in honour of our new addition.

This blown glass spire has been on top of my family’s tree since I was a kid. I like it a lot because it’s hard to find non-religious tree toppers so when my mom replaced it with an angel after I moved out I added it to my collection of ornaments.  The Mrs. isn’t fond of it but she hasn’t found a replacement that I’ve deemed suitable so there it sits atop the tree.

An out take from today’s photo shoot in the park, it’s just too damn cute to not share.

Still feeling like crap most of the time, and haven’t shot many pictures recently.  Here are a few that I did manage to take last week.

Anyone sick of ducks? I’m not, and they’ll be leaving for the winter soon, so…

This was the first time I’d seen this, a goose with blue eyes.

Flying rats.

DSC_0148-2

Probably the last ladybug shot I’ll get this year.

Bunny on a dewy morning.

I know, I know, it’s been over a week and I promised to be better about updating this blog then I have been in the past.  I’ve felt like crap lately, and just haven’t wanted to do anything.  To make up for it, here’s another multiple picture post.

DSC_0015

A swarm (I don’t know if that is the scientific term or not) of ladybugs has taken up residence on a large clump of weeds in my back yard.  This isn’t even the largest group I’ve seen on it at one time.

DSC_0027-2

This is a wood duck, one of a very small number of species of duck that perch in trees. The wood duck is also North America’s most colourful duck, though you can tell this is a juvenile because he doesn’t have all of his coloured feathers yet. I’ll go back to this same spot again in the near future to see if I can spot him again.

DSC_0178

I’ve been trying all summer to get a good picture of a dragonfly because my mom is crazy about them. This is the best one so far, but I’ll keep looking for one with a little more colour.

DSC_0360-2

This was just me practicing taking pictures of birds in flight, I’m starting to get the hang of it I think. To get great shots I’d need a much faster lens that is currently out of the budget.

One of the advantages of being a night owl is that I get to see the sunrise almost every day. Sometimes the colours are magnificent. I have not altered this picture at all.

Moon, originally uploaded by jasondoan76.

Starting to get the hang of photographing the moon…an 800mm lens would really help, anyone got a spare $8000 that they don’t need?
